LONDON — Britain’s richest man revealed Tuesday that he would rather be “Mr. Ordinary” and said that he watched his pennies by switching off lights.
The Duke of Westminster said that “given the choice, I would rather not have been born wealthy, but I never think of giving it up. It doesn’t belong to me.” He was referring to the fact that he regards himself as the custodian of the family fortune.
He also said he hated “being ripped off by people trying to take advantage of me. I always pay cash for things like a car and try to get a good discount.”
