Thermonuclear expert Edward Teller, one of the world’s leading scientists, will speak at a World Affairs Council of Ventura County event Monday.
In a speech entitled “The 21st Century, Will It Be Different?” Teller will discuss the future of defense systems and policy, his views on the changes needed to secure a safe world, and how the United States can best deal with the Russian nuclear scientific world.
Teller, a strong-defense advocate, also will talk about the economic effect of such changes and how he sees the “Star Wars” space defense fitting in, council officials said.
At 84, Teller is a director emeritus at Lawrence Livermore Laboratory and a senior research fellow at the Hoover Institution.
He has served on the General Advisory Committee of the U.S. Atomic Energy Commission, the U.S. Air Force Scientific Advisory Board, the President’s Foreign Intelligence Advisory Board and the White House Science Council.
Teller’s public presentation will begin at 6 p.m. in the banquet room of Howard Johnson Lodge, 75 W. Thousand Oaks Blvd., Thousand Oaks.
Cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will be served from 5:15 p.m. until 6.
Tickets to the event are $22.
The room can hold 200 people.
