L.A. COUNTY : Antonovich Foes Demand Recount

At least four of the six candidates who lost to incumbent Michael Antonovich in the June race for a seat on the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors have demanded a recount of the ballots.
The recount, which will begin Thursday, will cost at least $645 a day, said Marcia Ventura, spokeswoman for the county registrar of voters. It is uncertain how long the recount will take, she said.
Candidates Lynne A. Plambeck and Margalo Ashley-Farrand made the formal request to the county for the recount, for which they will have to pay, Ventura said.
Ashley-Farrand said that three other candidates also want a recount, identifying them as William Paparian, Jim Mihalka and Craig Freis. Paparian and Freis confirmed they wanted a recount. Mihalka could not be reached for comment.
Ashley-Farrand said she is concerned about possible irregularities in the election results. Ventura said she knows of no irregularities.
Final election results showed Antonovich winning with about 55% of the vote, followed by Paparian with 12.46% of the vote, Ventura said.
