Ruiz Grabs Founders’ Tournament Lead

Michael Ruiz of San Diego shot par 72 and leads after the first round of the Las Vegas Founders’ Legacy junior tournament.
Chris Riley, Ruiz’s teammate last year at Patrick Henry High, is among four golfers tied for second, one stroke back at 73.
SIGNINGS
The University of San Diego announced that its cross-country team has received two letters of intent.
Richard Gomez transfers from Southwestern College in Chula Vista as a senior with one year of eligibility. Gomez graduated from St. Augustine in 1987.
Dean Cortez transfers from Mesa College, where he was the school’s No. 3 runner last year. Cortez was Poway’s top runner in 1989 before graduating. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
In addition, the USD women’s swimming team received a letter of intent from Jennifer Shelden, a transfer from Orange Coast College. Shelden, a Costa Mesa Estancia High graduate, was the No. 1-ranked community college All-American last year.
