Cal Lutheran’s Smith Signs With Cubs

Cal Lutheran shortstop Dan Smith signed a minor league contract with the Chicago Cubs on Wednesday and will report to Huntington, W. Va. of the Class-A Appalachian League on Saturday.
Smith played at Newbury Park High, Moorpark College and San Jose State before transferring to Cal Lutheran. He batted .350 with eight home runs, 32 runs batted in and 15 stolen bases this season for the Kingsmen, who finished 43-6 and advanced to the NAIA championship game.
