‘Melrose’ Is the Place: Wednesday’s premiere of “Melrose Place” propelled Fox into second place for the night among the four major networks, according to figures released Thursday by the A.C. Nielsen Co. The much-hyped “Beverly Hills, 90210” spinoff about twentysomething Angst in L.A. drew a 10.3 rating, the third best on the night behind a new episode of CBS’ “48 Hours” (14.4) and a 90-minute rerun of “Unsolved Mysteries” on NBC (12.4). With each national point being equivalent to 921,000 households, it meant about 9.5 million households were tuned in. “Melrose” did even better in the Los Angeles market, with a 17.6 rating (about 818,000 viewers) tuning in to KTTV Channel 11 while KNBC Channel 4 was second and KABC Channel 7 and KTLA Channel 5 tied for third.
