The candidate filing period for the two City Council seats up for grabs in the Nov. 3 election opens Monday.
Candidates seeking the seats now held by councilmen Kenneth E. Friess and Jerry Harris must be registered voters and residents of San Juan Capistrano. Friess has announced he will not run again, but Harris, who was appointed to the council in December, is expected to enter the race.
Council members, who also serve as directors of the city’s community redevelopment agency and the Capistrano Valley Water District, serve four-year terms and are paid $380 a month.
The filing period will remain open through 5 p.m. Aug. 7, or through 5 p.m. Aug. 12, if one of the incumbents does not enter the race.
