Terry Cummings of the San Antonio Spurs, injured in a pickup game earlier this week in Chicago, could miss all of next basketball season.
Cummings had two ligaments torn in his right knee, a magnetic resonance imaging examination confirmed Wednesday night.
Doctors will immobilize the knee for three or four weeks, then surgically reconstruct the anterior cruciate ligament, a team spokesman said.
Cummings will to wear a cast for at least six weeks after the surgery before starting rehabilitation.
