SAN DIEGO : Attorney Pleads for Life of Killer of Two
- Share via
The attorney for a San Diego man convicted of killing two people pleaded for the man’s life Monday, saying the killer had been abused as a child.
A Superior Court jury heard closing arguments in the penalty phase of a murder trial that will help them determine if Jessie Ray Moffett should be given the death penalty for two murders that occurred eight years apart.
Moffett, 34, was convicted of killing 67-year-old Glen J. Avery, a security guard at the Kearny Mesa Holiday Inn, during a robbery Dec. 19, 1987. The ex-convict was also found guilty of killing 20-year-old Debra E. Owen at the Linda Vista Recreation Center in 1979.
