Software Maker Extends Benefits to Unmarried Spouses: Borland International Inc. of Scotts Valley, Calif., has decided to offer health insurance benefits to the domestic partners of its employees. Borland, the leading maker of database software for personal computers, said its new policy applies to both gay and heterosexual unmarried couples. Under the plan, employees will be able to get insurance for a domestic partner as a dependent. To qualify, partners must be in a relationship for at least six months, must have the same principal residence and share responsibility for the financial management of the household.
