NORTHRIDGE : Salary OK Expected for CSUN President

The California State University board of trustees is expected to approve today an annual salary of $134,800 a year for incoming university President Blenda J. Wilson, a CSU spokesman said Tuesday.

Cal State Northridge officials are also planning to build a residence with donated funds for Wilson, now chancellor of the University of Michigan at Dearborn, CSU spokesman Stephen J. MacCarthy said.

Wilson will receive in addition to her salary a $2,200-a-month interim housing allowance, MacCarthy said.

The trustees’ Committee on University and Faculty Personnel on Tuesday voted unanimously to approve Wilson’s salary, and the full board is scheduled to vote on it today. About $1,200 of Wilson’s monthly housing allowance will come from donated funds and $1,000 from state funds, MacCarthy said.

Wilson, who will succeed retiring CSUN President James W. Cleary, is scheduled to start her job at the 30,000-student Northridge campus on Sept. 8.

CSUN officials said they would not comment on plans for Wilson’s housing.

The committee also approved paying $117,960 a year to the new president of Cal State Sonoma--a campus of 7,500 students--and an annual salary of $128,304 to the acting president of Cal State Stanislaus, which has 5,800 students.
