SAN DIEGO : Mack Trial Jury Begins Deliberation

A jury began deliberating Wednesday in the trial of Robert Earl Mack, accused in two shootings at a Convair plant, after the prosecutor ridiculed a defense claim that the attack happened after Mack suffered a stress-related stroke.
The panel is considering charges that Mack killed his former supervisor and severely injured a company labor negotiator during a shooting spree after he was terminated for constantly being late to work.
Attorneys on both sides agree that Mack shot and killed Michael Konz, 25, and wounded James English, 52, both of whom were shot in the back of the head on Jan. 24 after a grievance hearing.
Testifying on his own behalf last week, Mack said he went to the hearing with the intention of killing himself, but blacked out before the attack. His attorney claims Mack suffered a mild stroke before opening fire.
