Longshots Produce Record Trifecta Payoff: $21,878.20

Mending My Ways, who was beaten by 30 1/2 lengths in her first start, triggered a record trifecta payoff with her $59.80 upset in the sixth race Wednesday at Hollywood Park.

Set My Place, a 44-1 shot who beat only two horses in her initial race, was second and Nancy’s Legend, who was nearly 13-1, was third, leading to a $2 trifecta that paid $21,878.20.

The previous Hollywood Park high for a $2 trifecta was $12,063.60 last Dec. 21. Saturday Smiles, who also paid $59.80 to win, finished ahead of 30-1 shot Fatease and 7-2 second choice True Love Ways in that day’s 10th race.
