NEWHALL : Post Office Move Is Put on Hold
- Share via
Opponents of a plan to relocate the Newhall post office were given a reprieve this week after postal officials announced that they will conduct a nationwide review of such plans.
Postmaster General Marvin Runyon, who was appointed July 6, placed a moratorium on all new lease and construction projects to familiarize himself with the plans, said agency spokesman Peter Haas.
The ban on new projects gives a group of local residents and business leaders more time to persuade postal officials not to relocate the Newhall post office from San Fernando Road in downtown Newhall to Lyons Avenue. The opposition group, which has collected more than 150 signatures and gained the support of the Santa Clarita City Council, believes that the relocation would hurt businesses in the already economically depressed area.
