Grandma Kurnitz

Re Sylvie Drake’s July 10 review of “Lost in Yonkers” (“Family Values a la Neil Simon”): I know that Jewish grandmothers are even more protective than the proverbial Jewish mothers, but Grandma Kurnitz takes it to an extreme. The store seems to have been in the family at least 20 years, so Grandma escaped from Nazi Germany in 1922 or earlier--at least 10 years before the Nazis took over in 1933. So Grandma knew at least 10 years in advance that she had to get herself and family out.
