FURTHER SOUTH: Costa Mesa country musician Chris Gaffney gets a nice boost in the July 18 issue of Billboard magazine. His latest album, “Mi Vida Loca,” is awarded a Billboard star, denoting that the reviewer “highly recommends” it. The reviewer describes Gaffney: “His songwriting is witty, his band rocks, and he’s a convincing and adept singer.” . . . Only one problem: the magazine identifies Gaffney as an “L.A. singer-songwriter.”
