Report Shows Confidence Decline: A University of Michigan survey indicates that consumer confidence in the economy slipped in early July, sources who get the subscription-only report said. The sources said the survey--keenly watched by financial markets--showed that the sentiment index fell to 77.1% in early July from 80.4% for the whole of June. The index of consumer expectations, which the federal government uses as part of its leading economic indicators report, fell to 67.1% from 70.7%, the sources said, while the index of current economic conditions fell to 92.7% from from 95.4%.
