Spectacular Tide pulled ahead in the stretch and won the $115,200, Grade II Lexington Stakes for 3-year-olds by 2 1/2 lengths at Belmont Park Sunday.
Ridden by Julie Krone, the Tsunami Slew colt covered 1 1/4 miles on the firm Inner Turf Course in 2:02 1/5 and paid $9.60, $5.40 and $3.60.
An equine virus that has surfaced in New England has led to a ban on the shipping of out-of-state thoroughbreds to Calder Race Course.
No cases of the virus have been reported at Calder, but race officials wanted to be cautious.
The Calder ban is likely to have little effect on the track’s racing program because horses are rarely brought to South Florida during the summer. But horses such as Pistols And Roses, Technology and Jackie Wackie, who are based at Calder but have shipped out of state, might have trouble returning if the ban is not lifted soon.
New England horses suspected of having the disease are under quarantine. Races at Foxboro Park in Massachusetts were suspended.
