Boeing May Build a New 737: Boeing Corp. may build a new version of its 737 jetliner that will fly farther and faster to counter an aggressive challenge by European aircraft maker Airbus Industrie. Boeing, the world’s biggest commercial plane manufacturer, was stung this month when United Airlines agreed to lease 50 A320 aircraft and take options on 50 more in a $3-billion deal with Airbus. Seattle-based Boeing said this week that it will sound out airline customers in the fall on new designs for the 737, which has been a workhorse for airlines flying short- and medium-range routes.
