Monterey Park : 10 Agencies Get Grants

The City Council has awarded $50,000 in Federal Community Development Block Grant funds to 10 nonprofit organizations that serve low-income, elderly, disabled and disadvantaged residents.
The grants are: the Asian Youth Center, $3,500 for tutorial and homework assistance; Boys and Girls Club, $10,000 for a computer learning center; Chinatown Senior Citizen Service Center, $1,000 for social services; Chinatown Service Center, $4,000 for social services; East Los Angeles College, $8,000 for a computer center for the disabled.
Also, Exchange Club, $1,000 for a child abuse prevention program; Family Counseling Services, $6,000 for a harmony program for Asian and Latino youths; Friends of the Seniors, $10,000 for an in-home case management program; Girl Scouts, $1,500 for a Brownie Troop, and Mentally and Educationally Retarded Citizens Inc. (MERCI), $5,000 for new roofing materials and a $5,000 general grant.
