A 1,300-acre brush fire that swept through Angeles National Forest near Castaic was extinguished early Wednesday morning, a forest spokeswoman said.
More than 200 Los Angeles County and U. S. Forest Service firefighters began mop-up efforts after the fire was controlled at 6 a.m., said Joan Wynn, a spokeswoman for Angeles National Forest.
Five firefighters who sustained minor injuries while battling the blaze were taken to Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital in Santa Clarita, said Robert Brady, a spokesman for the U.S. Forest Service.
An auto accident on the Golden State Freeway on Monday sparked the fire, which burned in the triangle formed by Lake Piru, Pyramid Lake and Castaic Lake.
Around 30 firefighters will continue to monitor the fire scene through Friday, Brady said.
