Poor Whites

I want to thank John Hurst for his article “Invisible Poor--Whites.” With all the hypocritical chastisement rendered by Vice President Dan Quayle and other white and black conservatives about the African-American community for a lack of family values and government dependence, it was refreshing to know that those conditions are not race specific, but poverty specific.
Men of color have borne the brunt of criticism by their women and the community at large for the very same things that go on at the Del Rio Mobile Home Park in Modesto. Hopefully the media will give equal time to the Craig Maxwells and Brenda Howertons that they give to the Smiths and the Washingtons in the inner city.
