Does Tim Rutten phone in his column from Mars? I can’t think of any other reason he could be under the impression that “. . . no white people were killed” in the Los Angeles riots (“Politicians Sow Double Standards on Race,” July 9). Your excellent coverage of the riots included descriptions of the circumstances surrounding every identified victim’s death and breakdowns by race.

Editor’s note: According to city officials, eight or 10 of the people killed during the riots were white. The exact number depends on the source.
