SYLMAR : Block Proposes Unit to Evaluate Abuse
- Share via
Los Angeles County Sheriff Sherman Block brought a proposal to the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday for a child abuse evaluation team to be established at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center in Sylmar.
Although the supervisors said they supported the team in concept, they said they would not consider whether to provide $248,000 needed to fund it until they continue their budget deliberations later this week.
A county committee on child abuse previously received board approval to hire a doctor part time for the job. But in April, the committee, which Block heads, announced it could find no one willing to take on the demanding duties on a part-time basis.
The new proposal is for a doctor, nurse and social worker who would handle the estimated 500 or more examinations of children from north Los Angeles County who are suspected of being abused.
