BARCELONA ’92 OLYMPICS : SUMMER GAMES SPOTLIGHT : NO GRAY AREA WHEN HE’S IN A ZONE

You’re traveling into another dimension. Next stop: The Johnny Zone.
Johnny Gray of Los Angeles, asked Tuesday what his strategy will be against the runners he will oppose in the 800 meters, said: “I plan to take them into what I call the Johnny Gray Twilight Zone.”
This zone apparently is a place in which Johnny travels so fast, Johnny can never be caught. “I don’t think anything will affect Johnny Gray. If I can commit myself to this race, Johnny Gray is going to win this race,” Johnny Gray said.
“Johnny Gray knows what to do. In 1984, I committed myself but I overexerted myself. In 1988, I didn’t commit myself. But as long as I do the things I am capable of, Johnny Gray will win.”
This a daily roundup of Olympic-related items from reporters in Barcelona from the Los Angeles Times, Newsday, Baltimore Sun and Hartford Courant, all Times-Mirror newspapers.
