Apple May Cut Macintosh Prices: Apple Computer Inc. reportedly plans to reduce prices on some of its Macintoshes in response to a price war raging in the personal computer industry. Apple is also close to introducing a new line of computers that highlight multimedia features, the San Francisco Examiner said. The price cuts are expected to begin in August, industry sources said. The new line is expected out in October. One of the new products is a Macintosh with a built-in CD-ROM drive, which uses compact discs for data storage. Apple is also expected to unveil a new version of its PowerBook notebook computer.
