Alexander Volkov of Russia, who passed up a chance to play in the Olympics because he didn’t think he was good enough, opened play in the U.S. Pro Tennis Championships in Brookline, Mass., with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over D.J. Bosse of South Africa.
