Top-seeded Ivan Lendl overcame a slow start to defeat Jimmy Arias in his opening match at the U.S. Pro Championships at Brookline, Mass. Lendl dropped the first three games before running off 12 straight for a 6-3, 6-0 victory.
Eric Amend, formerly of USC, upset Australian Pat Cash, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3, in the second round.
