GIRLS’ TENNIS PLAYOFFS : Fallbrook, Rancho Bernardo Advance

In the 3-A division of the San Diego Section girls’ tennis team playoffs, Fallbrook earned a shot at top-seeded Poway with an 11-7 victory over Patrick Henry. Led by freshman Jenny Lee in singles and junior Rosie Cella and senior Jamie Esperon in doubles, Rancho Bernardo advanced to a meeting today with fourth-seeded Grossmont with a 14-4 victory over Hilltop. Mira Mesa, paced by No. 1 singles Nalani Cruz, defeated Mt. Carmel, 15-3. The Marauders will meet second-seeded Bonita Vista.
In the 2-A, it was Bishop’s over Escondido, 15-3 and fourth-seeded La Jolla blanked Crawford, 18-0, to set up a meeting between the La Jolla rivals today. It was La Jolla’s third shutout of the season.
Coronado won all nine singles en route to a 12-6 victory over La Jolla Country Day to earn a meeting against second-seeded USDHS. Other 2-A winners were third-seeded San Pasqual, 16-2 against Hoover, and University City, a 14-4 victory over El Capitan.
The top-seeded teams in the 3-A and 2-A divisions had opening-round byes. They will take to the courts against first-round winners today across the county.
