Norwegian Premier Quits as Party Leader

OSLO — Norwegian Prime Minister Gro Harlem Brundtland, 53, said Friday she is stepping down as leader of the Labor Party for personal reasons after almost 12 years.
One of Brundtland’s four children committed suicide a month ago.
Brundtland, the dominant politician in Norway and known internationally for campaigning for the environment and women’s issues, said she would stay on as prime minister.
