Dr. Robert A. Lynch; Cardiologist

Dr. Robert A. Lynch, who practiced cardiology in Glendale for 25 years, has died at a Glendale hospital. He was 59.

Lynch died Friday of heart failure, said his wife, Sarah W. Lynch. He had been on a waiting list for a heart transplant since January.

Born in Carbondale, Pa., Lynch completed his undergraduate studies at Santa Clara University and graduated from St. Louis University Medical School. After an internship at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center and residencies at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Long Beach and Queen of Angels Hospital, Lynch practiced internal medicine in Hollywood.

He later completed a cardiology fellowship at Ceders-Sinai Medical Center and in the late-1960s, began practicing cardiology in Glendale. In recent years, he also practiced internal medicine.

Lynch, who was on staff at Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center, was director of its ICU-CCU unit in the early 1970s. From the late 1980s until the early 1990s, he served on the hospital’s board of directors.

In addition to his wife of 13 years, Lynch is survived by his sons, Michael A. Lynch of Pacoima, Jeffrey V. Lynch of Los Angeles and Patrick D. Lynch of Glendale; daughter Diane C. Masters of La Crescenta; sisters Angela Hayes of Vallejo, Ann Esten of El Segundo and Mary Sutherland of Seattle, and his first wife, Tari Lynch of Glendale.

A funeral Mass was held Monday with burial at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale. Woods Glendale Mortuary handled the arrangements. Donations can be made in Lynch’s name to the American Heart Assn.
