ANTELOPE VALLEY : Board Member Told to Move, or Quit

Unless the president of the board of the Antelope Valley Union High School District moves from her Agua Dulce residence, she will have to resign her post five months before her term ends, Los Angeles County officials said Wednesday.

Sophia Waugh must vacate her seat on the financially troubled high school board before July 1 because her home will no longer be within the district’s boundaries, as required by law, the County Office of Education said.

The district’s boundaries will change July 1 because Acton and Agua Dulce voted last week to add a high school to their elementary school district, pulling it out of the Antelope Valley district.

Forgy said that because Waugh’s seat will become vacant so close to the November, 1993, election, the board has two options: It could appoint a temporary replacement or leave Waugh’s seat vacant until the election.

Last week, Waugh said she did not plan to move from Agua Dulce to keep her post.

But on Wednesday, Waugh said she is considering renting an apartment in Lancaster to remain eligible for the job.

“I’m really against an appointment,” Waugh said. “I’m going to wait until March or April to make a decision.”
