Two of Wright’s teammates, David Drakeford and Kamran Sufi signed letters of intent with Oregon State and St. Mary’s, respectively, on Wednesday.
And one more Monarch plans to sign during the early signing period for high school athletes. Chris Jackson, a guard, plans to sign with UC Riverside today. Center Marmet Williams and forward Terence Wilborn will likely wait until spring to commit, Mater Dei Coach Gary McKnight said.
Other Orange County athletes who signed Wednesday include:
--Ocean View basketball player Jim Harris with Loyola Marymount.
--Costa Mesa basketball player Olivia DiCamilli with San Diego State.
--Esperanza volleyball player Paul Nihipali with UCLA.
--Los Alamitos pitcher Ben Rada and Santa Margarita shortstop Eric Sees with Stanford.
Among those in attendance at Rada’s Stanford signing ceremony was his best friend, Tim Carey, the Los Alamitos quarterback. Carey is taking his first recruiting visit to Stanford next month.
--Capistrano Valley basketball player Angie White plans to sign today with UNLV.
Three softball players have made commitments--Kennedy’s Lana Jimenez (Southwestern Louisiana), Nicole Paloney (Ohio State) and Rancho Alamitos’ Destiny Mollison (Illinois Chicago).
Jimenez, a left-handed-hitting center fielder, batted .384 last season. Paloney, a shortstop-pitcher, batted .318 and was 10-3 with a 0.28 ERA. Mollison pitched three no-hitters last season.
