Two boys, 13 and 14 years old, were taken into custody by Pomona police Thursday in the murder of a 16-year-old who was shot while walking a few blocks from his house Wednesday evening.
Lt. Leon Sakamoto said Yoeun Yem, a Cambodian immigrant who attended Garey High School in Pomona, was shot in the upper body on Phillips Boulevard, east of White Avenue.
Sakamoto said police found no witnesses at the scene but made the arrests after an investigation. He declined to elaborate. Yom Yem said his brother, Yoeun, left the house with a friend at about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. He said the family then heard a gunshot, and his brother’s friend ran back to the house to say that Yoeun had been shot after a confrontation with gang members.
