Culver City : Police Join Drug Task Force

The Police Department has agreed to participate in a United States Customs Service task force targeting drug trafficking.
A sworn officer will be transferred from the department to the multi-jurisdictional task force and will be paid out of the department’s asset seizure fund.
A new officer will be hired to fill the vacated position, Assistant Chief of Police Alan S. Elias said. There are about 115 officers in the department.
Department officials hope that the new program will bring additional money to the asset seizure fund, which pays for 5 1/2 police officer posts.
Although officers paid through the asset seizure fund are dedicated to stemming drug trafficking, they can be called upon for other police duties during emergencies, Elias said.
