Glenn, Hackett Pace USC Victory

The USC basketball team, behind the shooting of guards Phil Glenn and Dwayne Hackett, defeated the New Zealand national team in an exhibition game, 79-53, Saturday at the Lyon Center.
Glenn scored 16 points and Hackett scored 15 as the Trojans recovered from a slow first half. USC shot 33.3% from the field during the first 20 minutes and led, 31-29, at intermission.
The Trojans turned up the defensive pressure in the second half and held New Zealand to 29.2% shooting. During one stretch of 7:26, USC scored 16 unanswered points to extend its lead to 54-34.
Glen Denham led New Zealand with 11 points.
USC opens its regular season Tuesday at the Sports Arena against San Francisco State at 7:30 p.m.
