Lake Piru is not reputed to be a bass fishery like nearby Lake Casitas and Castaic Lake, but in the past week anglers at the Ventura County reservoir did much to boost its reputation as such.
Aron Masters of Chatsworth, fishing with plastic worms throughout the lake, caught and released 60 bass, including two 5-pounders. Dick Denlinger of Moorpark, meanwhile, hauled in a 13 1/2-pounder that attacked his Rapala lure. Garrett Godfrey of Fillmore, was fishing for trout with Power Bait in a marina when a 9-pounder struck.
“I’ve been here 15 years and I’ve never seen anything like it,” marina manager Art Caldara said.
