SANTA CLARITA — Police are seeking a driver whose vehicle struck a motorcyclist and his passenger, who were lying in the roadway after crashing into a van, said a California Highway Patrol spokeswoman.
Grant Gray, 40, and Mary Krone, 38, both of Granada Hills were pronounced dead at the scene of the 10:21 p.m. Wednesday crash on the Golden State Freeway near Rye Canyon Road in Santa Clarita.
According to witnesses, Gray’s motorcycle rear-ended a van traveling 55 m.p.h. south on the freeway, CHP Officer Wendy Moore said.
Gray and Krone, both wearing helmets, were struck by at least one car after being ejected from the motorcycle, Moore said.
“We don’t know if they were killed when they hit the pavement or when they were struck by another car,” Moore said.
The coroner’s office has not released the cause of death.
The driver of the van, Carlos Carrillo, 32, of Dinuba was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Police are investigating the incident as a hit-and-run.
