The signs are good for the Campbell Hall High boys’ basketball team.
The Vikings play Pasadena Poly for the Southern Section Division I championship at 7:30 tonight at Pepperdine’s Firestone Fieldhouse. In 1992, when the Vikings won the V-AA championship, the final was played at Pepperdine.
Campbell Hall (20-8) defeated Delphic League rival Faith Baptist in the title game that year. The Vikings advanced to the championship game this season by defeating league rival Brentwood, 62-60, Tuesday night.
In 1992, the Vikings beat Pasadena Poly in the second round of the playoffs.
“As the home team, we got to choose the site,” Campbell Hall Coach Jon Palarz said. “Hopefully, it will bring us the same kind of success.”
After sneaking into the playoffs as the Delphic’s third-place team, the Vikings are playing their best basketball of the season. But to stop Pasadena Poly (21-4), the Vikings must thwart the front line of Cameron Murphy and brothers Scott and Rob Reeder, all of whom are at least 6-foot-5.
The Vikings, however, have the biggest player on the court in 6-foot-10 center Alex Lopez. Senior swingmen Simeon Woodall and Harold Sylvester complement Lopez with solid outside shooting.
