Let’s Not Make Guinea Pigs of Pets or Children

* I was somewhat taken aback by statements made by Georgia Mercer, Mayor Richard Riordan’s West Valley representative, regarding coyote trapping (Valley Interview, Mar. 1).
She speaks of a “multifaceted” approach such as water drip systems to the hills to supply the coyotes with water, but we all know what makes up their food supply.
She speaks of spray repellent, but will it be used on our city streets as well? She speaks of education when we have been educated ad infinitum.
This is not a multifaceted approach. The mayor’s office seems to be suggesting an experiment, and our pets and children are the guinea pigs.
