Crenshaw High, The Times’ No. 2-rated team, might not have played its best game of the season, but the Cougars still had enough to win their second consecutive City 4-A Division boys’ basketball championship with a 72-53 victory over Dorsey late Friday night.
Before an estimated crowd of 6,500 at the Sports Arena, Crenshaw Coach Willie West won his record-setting 13th City title. The Cougars, who have won five State titles, also defeated Dorsey in last year’s championship game.
Crenshaw (25-2), which averaged 100.6 points a game this season, was led by California-bound forward Tremaine Fowlkes, who had 18 points, 16 rebounds and five blocked shots.
Crenshaw advances into the State Southern Regional tournament at the Anaheim Arena next Saturday.
