COLLEGE BASKETBALL : Southwestern Louisiana Wins Sun Belt Title

Byron Starks scored 23 points Tuesday night to lead Southwestern Louisiana (22-7) to its sixth trip to the NCAA tournament and a 78-72 victory over Western Kentucky (20-10) in the Sun Belt Conference championship game at Bowling Green, Ky.
The Ragin’ Cajuns will be joined in the NCAA tournament by Wisconsin-Green Bay (26-6), who used Logan Vander Velden’s three-point play with 12.2 seconds left to go ahead for good in a 61-56 victory over Illinois-Chicago (20-9) in the Mid-Continent Conference finals at Rosemont, Ill.
WOMEN
Danielle Scott scored 22 points to lead Long Beach State (11-16) to a 94-58 victory over Nevada (3-24) in the first round of the Big West tournament at Las Vegas.
In another first-round game, Allah-mi Basheer had a career-high 31 points and 13 rebounds as UC Irvine defeated Cal State Fullerton, 73-66.
