If you pay state income taxes, you have the chance to support public school libraries.
A checkoff on the tax form allows individuals to donate $1 (a larger donation can be written in) to purchase books and other library media technology. “The money goes directly to buying library books and other resources for children,” Connie Newhan, library media specialist for Tustin Unified School District, said.
The fund will be on the tax form for five years, unless in any year it fails to generate $250,000. “It’s important in this first year that at least the minimum amount is raised, “ Newhan said. “Otherwise it will be dropped forever.”
