AND ONE MORE THING: Los Lobos fans can breathe a sigh of relief: The East L.A. band is not breaking up. There have been whispers of late about a rift in the band over creative direction, with the more impressionistic sound of the band’s last album, “Kiko,” allegedly rankling the more roots-rock-oriented Cesar Rosas.
The rumors of tension grew as members David Hidalgo and Louie Perez worked on a side project as the Latin Playboys (an album, with an emphasis on the “Kiko”-like experimentation, is due this week), while Rosas produced albums by the Paladins and the Blazers, two Southern California roots-rock acts, and started writing songs for a possible solo album.
But the band’s management says that there is no division and that Los Lobos is happily at work on a children’s album of Mexican folk music. The band will do a summer concert tour before starting work on a regular album in the fall.
