Loyola 88, Notre Dame 39--Jason Barreda and Francisco Paredes won two events each as the Cubs began their quest for their sixth consecutive league title in the Mission League meet Thursday.
Barreda won the 800 and 3,200, timing 1:59.6 and 9:58.1 and Paredes leaped 21-3 and 40-4 1/2 in the long and triple jumps.
Matt Pentecost (52-7 1/2), Daniel Baumeister (13-0) and Greg Carpenter (6-0) were winners in the shotput, pole vault and high jump.
Tennis
Bell 7, Garfield 0--Eagles Jaime Cruz and Seo Seung won 6-0, 6-0 and Anton Chow, playing No. 2 singles, won by the same score to sweep the visiting Bulldogs on Thursday.
Swimming
Granada Hills 75, Fremont 55--Cory Mayham won the boys’ 200 individual medley and Brian Barrett won the 100 freestyle to lead the Pathfinders.
Granada Hills 101, Fremont 21--Sophomore Myra Gonzalez won the girls’ 100 backstroke to help put the five-girl Pathfinder team on the scoreboard.
Bell 78, Banning 62--Paul Franco, who won in the 100 breaststroke, Luis Romero, Luis Torres and George Aguirre were the leading swimmers of the Eagles 10-member boys’ team.
Volleyball
Roosevelt 3, Wilson 0--Capitalizing on Mule errors, the Division 4-A Roughriders held their Division 3-A opponents to a total 15 points in the Wednesday win, 15-3, 15-2, 15-10.
Jefferson 3, Manual Arts 0--Outside hitter Marcos Meza had nine kills and middle blocker Carlos Savedra had six kills Wednesday as Jefferson beat host Toilers, 15-11, 15-1, 15-9.
