CS Northridge Signs Three From County

In an attempt to rebound from his first losing season in eight years as football coach at Cal State Northridge, Bob Burt is returning to his roots.
The former Cal State Fullerton defensive coordinator has signed three prep defensive players from Orange County.
Jason Sweet, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound linebacker from Estancia High, signed during the weekend. Signing in the past week were Pete Silvey, a 6-3, 230-pound linebacker from Mater Dei, and Jeff Bodholdt, a 6-3, 255-pound defensive lineman from Irvine.
The Matadors were 4-6 last season.

Conrad Byars, boys’ basketball coach at Anaheim High the last 10 years, was recently named coach at Western High School, said Jim Howell, Western’s athletic director.
Anaheim, 6-13 last season, was 63-159 under Byars, 35.
At Western, Byars replaces Matt Cavanaugh, whose record was 27-23 over two seasons.

The coaches for the 29th Orange County All-Star basketball game, April 23 at Orange Coast College, were announced Monday.
Gordon Billingsley of Fountain Valley will coach the boys’ team for the South and Mike Murphy of Sonora will coach the North.
For the girls, Mary Mulligan of San Clemente will head the South and Mary Houser of Mater Dei will lead the North. The players will be announced March 23.
