Volunteers Needed to Prepare Soccer Field at Oxnard College

Volunteers are needed Saturday to lay sod for a second soccer field at Oxnard College.
The field will be used this summer by international teams training for the World Cup championships, to be held for the first time in the United States. Oxnard College is an official World Cup training site, but because it did not have regulation-size soccer fields, the college has had to build two this month.
Volunteers, many of them college staff members and students, laid sod for the first field March 5. The volunteers worked so quickly that they spread about 100,000 square feet of sod in less than seven hours, college officials said.
The effort will start Saturday at 6:30 a.m. For information, call the college’s public information office at 986-5809.
