PALMDALE — A driver who was speeding in the rain crashed his car into a power pole Saturday, killing his 29-year-old son, a passenger in the vehicle, authorities said.
The victim died at the scene, said Capt. Bob Hancock of the Los Angeles County Fire Department. His name was withheld until other relatives could be notified.
The driver, a 62-year-old Palmdale man, suffered a broken neck in the accident and was in critical but stable condition at Antelope Valley Medical Center, authorities said.
The accident occurred about 1 p.m. when the driver lost control of the car as he headed west on Palmdale Boulevard near 190th Street East. A 32-year-old woman, also a passenger, was not seriously injured, said California Highway Patrol Officer Bruce Ferrier.
The impact of the car “sheared the telephone pole off at the bottom and knocked it 10 feet back,” Hancock said.
