A 19-year-old Oxnard man who police said grabbed his sometime girlfriend at gunpoint in a Ventura bar and held her captive for 10 hours was scheduled to be arraigned todayon kidnaping charges, Ventura police said.
After an argument over ending their relationship at Club Deja Vu in Ventura on Saturday night, Joe Roman confronted the 17-year-old Oxnard girl whom he had dated, officials said.
“He was arguing with the victim inside the bar,” Lt. Steve Bowman said. “He went back to his car and got a rifle, went back into the club, grabbed the girl and went back to the car.”
Bowman said Roman’s .22-caliber rifle went off before he entered the bar. Officials are uncertain if Roman fired the gun or if it discharged accidentally.
Roman kept the girl hostage throughout the night, taking her to several locations, officials said. Two Ventura police officers located the pair at Roman’s mother’s house in Oxnard Sunday morning.
“They were both in his bedroom when the officers got there,” Bowman said.
The girl was not injured, and Roman was arrested and booked at Ventura County jail on suspicion of kidnaping. He is expected to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. today.
