Home sales in Simi Valley and Moorpark in February jumped 24% over the same month last year, an increase realtors said is a sign that the economy is well on its way to recovery.
Despite the Jan. 17 earthquake that caused major property damage in Simi Valley, residents are eager to buy before interest rates get too high, said Barbara Schebler, a member of the board of directors of the Simi Valley-Moorpark Assn. of Realtors, which released the figures.
In all, 102 homes and condominiums were sold in Simi Valley, Moorpark and the Santa Rosa Valley in February, up from 82 sold in February, 1993.
“This is definitely good news,” Schebler said. “The earthquake disoriented people for a little while, but things picked right back up again.”
The February total was 32.5% higher than the January sales total, Schebler said.
The average resale price of all property sold in Simi Valley over the last six months was $208,409, virtually unchanged from a year ago. In Moorpark and the Santa Rosa Valley, the six-month average was down 4.7% to $244,932.
